Weekly Report: January 21-25

Well, we are staying on a roll around here and I am so glad. I am still trying to decide what we are going to do about science but everything else is moving along very well.

Math: Alexander completed 36-40, Nathaniel completed 31-35, and Eliza started Saxon K and completed lessons 1-3.

Bible: We completed 3 lessons...we need to do better!

Phonics: Alexander completed 2 lessons in 100 EZ Lessons but he started the ETC set. I felt good about him working on this and gaining some confidence. Confidence is key for him at this point! Nathaniel also did 2 of the 100 Lessons and began ETC in the "Get Ready" set of A, B, and C books. he completed the entire A book and Began working on the B book.

Handwriting: Alexander completed the HWOT "My Printing Book" and Nathaniel continued to work in this HWOT book, completing the capitals and moving on to lower case.

Grammar: FLL 14-17 were rather painless and pretty quick!!

History: We completed Chapter 7 and 8 in SOTW including narrations, maps, and reading. I chose to do none of the extra activities.

Science: We read in a DK book called Rock and Fossil Hunter and we did an experiment called "Tough Newspaper" on the affects of air pressure.

Extra activities: All three children did karate twice this week. Each of the boys had a basketball game, and they both went to their music lesson. Ralph took the boys for a one mile run on Tuesday and Nathaniel had dance this week. The dance school was closed on Eliza's dance day for the MLK holiday. Friday was the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Ralph took all three kids as I went off for the weekend to scrapbook. Alexander came in third for the Tiger Cubs and I completed Nathaniel's baby album.

Weekly Report--January 14-18

I wasn't sure if I could get two solid weeks in a row but I did it!! I keep thinking that year around school is the way to go as the kids just seem to get lost every time we take any time off. It just feels good to be gaining some momentum. I jsut want to keep it going!!

Ralph was off on Thursday and Friday of this week. I did math with the boys on Friday morning and then I took a quick trip down to Jacksonville to go to the homeschool bookstore. I still need to get a few things from Rainbow Resource but it was a productive trip.

Reading--Alexander made it through Lesson 49 in 100 EZ Lessons and Nathaniel made it through lesson 30. Eliza started on 100 EZ Lessons and did just first lesson this week. I can't believe that were are at the point of her reading!! The Book Mobile came on Tuesday and the kids picked out lots of books that we read this week.

Grammar--FLL 12-13.

Bible--3 lessons out of Beginnings II.

History--SOTW Chapter 6. This was the Old Testament and I didn't feel like we really needed to read a whole lot extra about this as they know these stories very well.

Math--Alexander did Saxon 30-35 and Nathaniel did 25-30. We did math 6 days this week as I feel the need to move forward. Also, it worked out that they were tesing on Monday's and that was just a bad thing. Eliza wants to "do" math like her brothers so I caved this week and I have bought and will start her next week on Saxon K. If my sanity can take 3 elementary Saxon programs it will be a miracle!!

Handwriting--Both boys worked in their HWOT books and Eliza in her pre-writing book that I am still not too sure about. I started Nathaniel on the ETC book A, which is as much phonics as handwriting but I'll put it here. he loves doing those kinds of workbooks and I think he will move quickly through the A, B, and C books.

Music--Both boys practiced well this week. nathaniel conitues to have a better attitude about the practicing and that makes all of us in the house happy!! Alexander is doing well also and I am glad that he is doing very well with his theory work as well as playing. Both boys had their music lessons this week.

Science--I am done, done, DONE with Apologia Elementary Astronomy!! I don't like it. The kids are bored to tears and revolt when I bring it out!! I will have something new by next week!!

Misc--We finally made the chicken mummy. What a thorn that has been in my side and I am glad that it is now done and sitting doing it's thing!! I also had the boys work on BrainQuest problems and Logic Links a couple of days. They like both and did well with them.

Outside Activities--Eliza and Nathaniel each had dance lessons once this week. All the kids made it to karate this week for the maximum lessons (3 times for the boys and twice for Eliza). Alexander had one basketball game this week and nathaniel had two. Both boys had their private chess lesson and did well. Alexander had Cub Scouts and began working on his PineWood Derby car.

January 7-12

It has been a difficult couple of months and we have been derailed more than a few times but we are back up and going strong at this point. We took time off but still did lots of reading and what not. Now it is back to the day in and out of school, and here is what we did...

History--We made it through SOTW Chapter 5 including narrations, map work and coloring. No easy thing for me, as I seem to have really gotten stuck here. I don't know why, but it was difficult for me.

Math--Alexander did Saxon lessons 26-29 and Nathaniel did Saxon 21-24.

Reading--Alexander made it through lessons 41-45 in 100 EZ Lessons. Nathaniel went from 21 through 25. We read aloud I Am the Mummy Heb-Nefert; Seeker of Knowledge; Ancient Egyptians and Their Neighbors.

Handwriting--Both boys did well this week and practiced daily. Eliza started a book that I got from Rainbow Resource called getting Ready to Write. I'm not so sure about this book. I think maybe she is ready to start with handwritting.

Music--Both boys practiced everyday this week. Nathaniel has started to find his groove and is getting better about practicing. Less fussing is always a good thing in my book!! Both boys had their 30 minute music lesson.

Grammar--FLL lessons 11 and 12

Bible--A rather slow start here as we only got two lessons in this week.

Science--I just can't bring myself to open that Astronomy book again!! So, we talked about crystals and solutions and made some rock candy.

Outside Activities--Eliza and Nathaniel both did dance class this week. All three kids made it to their karate classes this week. The boys both had a basketball game on the opening day of the season. They both also went to their private chess lesson. They only got one CrossFit kids workout in this week, but they were still very active.
